Professional Curriculum
Born in Málaga (Spain), Álvaro began his piano lessons under the guidance of Ana María Silva at the conservatory of his hometown, Málaga, finishing his degree with the highest graduating award before joining the class of Prof. Ángel Sanzo in Badajoz, Spain, where he completed his Bachelor in Music also with the highest marks.
Álvaro received a Master's degree in Music Performance at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy of Leipzig under Prof. Chirstian Pohl. In 2016 he joined the class of the legendary pianist Eliso Virsaladze in Florence. In 2023 he finished his Konzertexamen Diploma with honors at the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater with Prof. Stepan Simonian. Álvaro worked from 2018-2023 as piano teacher ‘Dozent’ at the same university.
Álvaro has performed in different chamber music ensambles (from duo to piano quintet) and as concert pianist, having played with several orchestras such as Andalusian Youth orchestra or Symphonic Orchestras of Málaga and Badajoz as well as with the Symphoniker Hamburg. He has performed extensively in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Greece, United Kingdom, France and Poland in prestigious halls like Horowitz Saal, Steinway Haus, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Casa da Musica or Theater am Rand. Important festivals include Emil Gilels Festival (Freiburg), Festival Internacional de Jovens Pianistes (Oporto), Pontino di Musica (Rome).
In addition, Álvaro has taken part in masterclasses all over Europe including the International Mendelssohn Academy, with leading professors such as Professor Bronislawa Kawalla at the Fryderyk Chopin School of Music in Warsaw; Julian Martin from Juilliard School of Music of New York, Robert Levin, Claudio Martínez Menher, Arie Vardi, Nino Kereselidze, Andrei Gavrilov, Jacques Rouvier and Leonidas Kavakos.
Álvaro’s piano skills have been awarded in both national and international competitions including ‘Esteban Sánchez International Piano Competition’, ‘Pedro Bote International Piano Competition’, 'Campillos International Piano Competition', 'Classics on the Danube International Piano Competition in Vienna' and 'Ciudad de Albacete National Piano Competition' as well as being awarded recitals across Europe playing solo and chamber music concerts. Álvaro is a ‘Gewa Artist’.
In 2022 Álvaro had his debut with the Hamburg Symphoniker performing Rachmaninov's second Piano Concerto op. 18.
